Achieving Peace and Calm During the Holidays
Practice #1: Intentional Breathing
There are numerous benefits to intentional breathing including lowering your heart rate and blood pressure, as well as reducing the amount of stress hormones in your blood. Intentional breaths are a great way to bring yourself out of a triggered or disruptive state and back into the present moment. In addition to taking an slow, intentional inhale and exhale, you can implement Box Breathing which is breathing in for a count of 4, holding for a count of 4, exhaling for a count of 4 and resting for a count of 4. Give either of these a try!

Practice #2: Reciting Truth Statements
Usually when we are triggered or in a reactionary state, it's because we are believing something untrue about ourselves or the situation. This can cause emotions like fear, anger, or sadness and the involuntary reaction of fight, flight or freeze. Taking a moment to breathe and then speak truth about yourself will help you to come back to a place of center and peace. Reminding yourself of your truth statement from your weekend experiences, or the truth of who you are when you are operating from a place of light and love can be incredibly beneficial--reminding yourself that you are lovable, you are valuable, that you have inherent worth or that you are enough will help to restore peace and calm internally.

Practice #3: Practice Being Grateful
Take a moment to intentionally focus on the things you are truly grateful for in your current life. It can be as simple as the air you are breathing, the view outside your window, the food you are eating or the people around you. Let yourself fully feel the gratitude and let it fill up your heart and expand to fill all of you, and then allow it to expand outside of you to extend out to who or what you are grateful for.
